Who Says Cheaters Never Win? It definitely wasn’t the Boise St Broncos!
As I woke up this morning, and did my usual search for interesting sports stories, I couldn’t help but notice that the Boise St Broncos are the latest team in a rash of College Football programs currently facing recruiting sanctions from the NCAA.
I must admit. Initially, it caught me by surprise. But then I had to remind myself that no one becomes significant in College Football without a little bending of the rules. In College Football, rules are made to be broken, and it has been that way for years. If you want to play with the Big boys, you have to act like the Big boys.
When taking a look back at the Boise St football records of the past. It is definitely not hard to see that the Boise St Football program has been strong for well over a decade. However, the Broncos did not receive any national respect until their magical 43-42 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners back in 2007.
I truly believe that was the day everything changed for the Boise St Football program! No longer was Boise St an obscure school in Idaho that no one had ever heard of. No longer was Boise St a school that top recruits would not let into their living room. With the win over perennial power Oklahoma, the door to the million dollar boys club had been kicked wide open, and to Broncos credit they have taken full advantage.
But as we all know, with great success, comes great sacrifice. For the CEO of a fortune 500 company, sacrifice may mean less time with the family, or less personal leisure time. For the Boise St Broncos, success means sacrificing their wholesome image. Boise St is no different than 90% of the Big-Time College Football programs across the country. You do what you MUST to win! So the news of Boise St facing NCAA sanctions should come as NO surprise to anyone in my mind.
College Football is high stakes poker, and in order to win you have to be holding some extra cards under the table!
