In today’s world, where all athletes are an instagram photo, tik-tok rant or off-the-field blunder away from losing everything. It is essential that athletes focus on surrounding themselves with people who always keep their best interest the priority!

This group of people will be known as the athletes “Inner Circle.”

Now this doesn’t mean a tribe full of “Yes Men.”  In the football industry, the athletes who find a balance of family, friends, and trusted advisors, typically have the most success. The Inner Circle, will become responsible for always making sure that the athlete remains true to the process, stays grounded and never looses sight of their ultimate goals. The Inner Circle, will point out areas of improvement when the athlete is high, but remind the athlete of their greatness when the athlete is low.

The sooner an athlete can develop their Inner Circle, the better.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when developing your Inner Circle:

  1. Has this person always been optimistic and supportive of my goals?
  2. Do they have personal experience with what I want to accomplish?
  3. Do they love me?
  4. Do they make good decisions in their own life?
  5. Do I feel I can count on them if I was in a tough position?
  6. Have they given me sound advice in the past?
  7. Do they have their own goals and aspirations?
  8. Have they shown good character in the past?
  9. Were they referred by someone in my Inner Circle?
  10. If so, Do they come highly recommended by people who I know are having success?
