Every football player has dreams of early playing time and the fairy tale College Football career.

However, it’s extremely rare that a College Football player walks on campus ready to play a Big Role as a True Freshman or Redshirt Freshman.

Checkout our checklist below, detailing the typical ways that young players find early playing time in College!

Size and Speed

College coaches will never hold back young talent that can help them win.

At least the top coaches won’t.

However, young college football players have to be able to physically hold up to the pounding and the speed that comes with playing at the college level.

It’s up to the coaching staff to evaluate who is truly ready to play early. Usually size and speed is the first thing they check.

The Depth Chart

If a team is particularly light at a position, they may look to some of the younger players to help immediately. It’s never ideal for a team to play too many young players.

But it happens.

If it lines up that a player receives early playing time. They have to take advantage.

The athletes who play young, are the ones who go Pro!

Playbook

Athletes who pick up the playbook quick always get noticed. Football is a thinking man’s game. Coaches are usually nervous that young players will make mental mistakes.

And coaches hate mental mistakes!

If you can prove to the coaching staff that they won’t have to repeat themselves when it comes to your responsibilities on-the-field.

You may find yourself in the game pretty quick during your college football career.

Supreme Talent

Young athletes with Supreme Talent, usually let everyone know pretty early in training camp.

Typically, the coaches will be giddy about that player before he ever hits the practice field. Athletes with Supreme Talent always play early.

Football is a production game and Superstars produce.

Regardless of Age.

Supreme Talents will always find a way to get a hold of early playing time. The film never lies about who needs to be on-the-field.

*Injuries

Injuries are always the wildcard during the football season.

Every team expects injuries.

The question isn’t “If,” someone on the team will get injured. The question is “who?”

If your team suffers too many injuries at a position that has light depth. The coaches will definitely be tapping true Freshman and Red-shirt freshmen to get in the game!
