I know you didn’t play today. It’s not hard to tell. It’s written all over your face.
Even though the team won, you are trying to carry a smile, but you are dying inside. Your entire family was in the stands and you didn’t even see one play. The worst part, your position coach walking through the entire locker room congratulating guys after the game. He actually had the nerve to pat you on your shoulder( as you solemnly sat in your locker), and utter the words “Good Game”.
As if you really had something to do with it.
As your family greets you outside the team athletic facility showering you with hugs and kisses, it’s painfully obvious that you are tense. Tense with frustration, tense with anger! It’s written all over your face.
Your family’s attempt to console you bear no weight. You have worked just as many hours as the starter right? Actually, come to think about it, you put in more hours than the starter did. You always have. But the starter was highly recruited, hand picked by your position coach.
So what do you do? Toss in the towel? There really is no sense in trying right? All the odds are against you.
Wrong! It’s time to get good and active. Learn how to use that anger and disappointment for fuel. Fuel to feed the fire burning within you! If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t be mad. But you care about playing time because you are a competitor and the best competitors always find a way.
Your opportunity will come. I can promise you that. The opportunity to steal playing time, then the opportunity to own playing time. So it is essential that you get ready and stay prepared.
From what I can see, you look like you are physically there . However, I do see you still have some mental work to do. You know how I can tell?
Your Body Language……
