1.) Gentlemen’s Courtesy:

Athletes are offered football scholarships in different ways during the recruiting process. Regardless of whether or not your blessing was delivered by phone, email, tweet or snail mail, it’s imperative that you thank the university and coaching staff of the school(s) that made the offer. Also, remember to inform those who helped you land the scholarship. (Parent’s, guardians, coaches, mentors, etc)

2.) Social Networking Update:

Once the athlete receives an offer, a great strategic move is to mention the offer on your social networks, and then follow the coaches of the team who made the offer. This not only shows a mutual interest in the offering school, but respectfully let’s the other schools know you are coveted.

3.) Research the Opportunity:

Once you have some free time, make sure to research the school and football program. Your research should include everything from the location of the school to what successful alums attended the school, and everything in between. Today’s technology provides amazing knowledge before you ever step foot on campus.

4.) Time to Visit:

After your research, if you find that you are indeed interested in the offering school, the unofficial visit/official visit should be next. Pictures and virtual tours online are great! But at the end of the day, you need to go with the school that feels right and best fits you. And the only way to find out which campus that is, is by visiting the school in person. High school juniors should visit at least 4 potential college campuses before heading into their senior year. Make sure the schools you visit are a realistic location from an academic and athletic standpoint.
